Although video games did exist before Pong, this simple game is seen as the true forefather, largely thanks to its popularity back in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Whoever owned a games console like this during those very early days of gaming was the hero of the entire neighbourhood! And it actually took some skill, concentration and consistency to move the paddles about and win games... well, unless your opponent was useless! Admittedly, there were no official Pong tournaments, but unofficially everyone fought for their local title of Pong Champion ;).
